The History of the Wydown Hotel

Wydown Hotel Mark HoffmeisterOwner and operator Mark Hoffmeister took his inspiration for this boutique hotel from a place close to his heart — an exceptionally beautiful, tree-lined street known as Wydown Boulevard in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. That personal touch is one of many that Mark has infused into the Wydown.

Mark’s self‐professed “love affair” with hotels dates back as far as he can remember, with family vacations at hotels and resorts evoking such unforgettable, magical feelings, they inspired him to one day open a hotel of his own. Ever mindful of his aspiration to become a hotelier, Mark first established a career in the finance sector before settling down in St. Helena in 2009. It was here, amidst the charming tree-lined roads of downtown’s Main Street, that he found the perfect location for his dream project — The Wydown Hotel.

Mark’s lifelong love of design is clear throughout the property. All of the hotel’s rooms, hallways and the lobby feature a carefully curated collection of furniture from Masin’s Fine Furnishings in Seattle, owned by Mark’s good friend and interior collaborator, David Masin. In short, it is a hotel that has been furnished like the finest contemporary home.

From the striking, large-scale photographs adorning the walls (the work of Mark’s beloved brother-in-law Josh Lopez) to the genuinely happy smiles of staff at the front desk, the Wydown has “home away from home” written all over it. With its modern, cosmopolitan take on wine country style, the sophisticated design of the Wydown offers luxury that is utterly contemporary and incredibly comfortable.

Since the venue opened in July 2011, Mark and his team have worked passionately to create a fresh experience, and to demonstrate that the Wydown is more than just another wine country hotel —it is a chic, modern, relaxing retreat that feels like home, in the heart of Napa Valley’s St. Helena.
